Two Weeks to Kickstarter: Narrin Is Ready for Its Next Chapter

On May 27, we shared an early look at our Kickstarter preparation and the work underway to bring Narrin to life. Today, with our planned Kickstarter launch only two weeks away, the story has changed in an important way: Narrin is no longer just a product vision. It is a working software foundation running across Windows and Android development environments, with a focused path toward public release.

The mission, however, remains the same. We want to help families move beyond storing photos and start reliving the people, places, events and experiences that give those photos meaning.

We take more photos than ever, yet many of our most meaningful images disappear into folders, cloud libraries and endless camera rolls. The files remain safe, but the stories around them become harder to find. A filename cannot explain why a moment mattered. A folder can show where an image was stored, but it cannot reveal every story that image belongs to.

Narrin is designed to restore those connections.

The Narrin difference: the story travels with the image

Narrin Studio connects selected photos with memory context, including the date, location, map, event, people and meaningful tags. It then renders that context into standard portrait or landscape JPEG presentation images.

That standard output creates one of Narrin's most important advantages: a finished slideshow is not locked inside Narrin, and it does not require a proprietary digital frame.

· Use a standard JPEG-compatible digital photo frame you already own.

· Share the finished slideshow through a folder or supported cloud location.

· Give the story to a parent, grandparent or friend who does not have a Narrin account.

· Choose portrait or landscape output and a resolution that fits the intended display.

Narrin creates the story once, then lets that story travel. The context becomes part of the presentation image, so the map, date, event, people and tags remain visible wherever the JPEG can be displayed.

A Narrin slideshow can be copied to a frame, shared through a cloud folder, or opened in a slideshow app. The person viewing it does not need to understand Narrin. They can simply enjoy the memory.

Your photos stay where you choose

Narrin is not intended to become another storage silo for all of your original photos. Your source media remains in its supported local or cloud location. Narrin stores the information that connects each photo to its story, then writes the finished slideshow to the destination you select.

· Removing a Narrin database record does not delete the original source photo.

· Narrin-generated slideshow images are stored only where the family chooses to place them.

· An optional Render Library can speed reuse while remaining in the family's configured cloud storage.

This approach lets Narrin add meaning without asking families to surrender control of their original media library.

One photo can belong to many stories

Traditional folders usually place a photo in one location. Real memories do not work that way.

A single photograph from an anniversary cruise might belong to a story about Aruba, a collection of favorite cruise moments, a timeline of anniversaries, or a chronological story about a life shared together. Narrin connects the same image to every relevant path through location, event, people and tags.

Those four connections work together:

· Location shows where the moment happened, from a country or city to a hotel, restaurant, cabin, landmark or even a place on the Moon.

· Event explains why the moment happened, such as a wedding, cruise, graduation, birthday, reunion or family tradition.

· People records who was there using a dedicated relationship structure, separate from general tags.

· Tags describe the experience, such as culinary moments, wildlife, hiking, favorite, sunset or hidden gem.

Combined with the capture date, these connections allow a family to build highly specific stories, such as favorite cruise photos with Tracey, every cooking class in Europe, or anniversaries from the wedding day to today.

Two connected apps, one family experience

Narrin is being developed as two connected applications.

Narrin Studio: create and connect

Narrin Studio is where families connect supported local and cloud sources, assign locations, events, people and tags, create maps, edit photos, preview stories, and generate portrait or landscape slideshow images.

Narrin View: explore and relive

Narrin View is the interactive experience for phones and tablets. It is designed to let family members filter memories by time, place, event, person and tag, create a slideshow for the moment, and use cached pre-rendered files for dependable viewing, including saved offline slideshows.

The family account connects Studio and View, while exported JPEG slideshows can travel beyond the account to anyone the family chooses.

A working product foundation

Since our May Kickstarter preparation update, development has advanced significantly.
Narrin Studio now runs on Windows and on a 10" Amazon Fire tablet.
Narrin View is also running on the Amazon Fire tablet and on a Galaxy Android phone.

The August 10, 2026 Studio MVP review recorded 80 implemented workflows and 236 passing automated tests. Current progress includes:

· Account sign-in, recovery, tenant switching and detailed user profiles.

· Subscription capability and the product foundation for family administration.

· Local and mapped folders, OneDrive, Google Drive and Google Photos sources.

· Gallery and database operations, including source matching and removal without deleting originals.

· Locations, location hierarchy, maps, people, events, tags and multi-image assignment.

· Working Map Editor and Photo Editor workflows.

· Six standard render profiles, with portrait and landscape output at 720, 1080 and 1200 resolutions.

· Optional OneDrive or Google Drive Render Library support, slideshow preview, generation and chronological ordering.

This progress matters because Kickstarter support will not be funding a blank-page idea. It will help us complete, validate and polish a working core.

What the Kickstarter campaign will complete

The remaining work is focused and visible. Campaign funding will support cross-platform release engineering, family administration, onboarding and help, progress and cancellation feedback, Narrin View integration, performance validation and final product polish.

December 2026 through January 2027: Narrin Studio Desktop

Our target is to release Narrin Studio for Windows and macOS, building on the working Windows MVP. This phase includes macOS validation, packaging, signing and notarization, onboarding, performance validation, family administration and release testing.

January 2027: Narrin Studio Tablet

Our target is to release Narrin Studio for iPad and Android tablets, building on the current Android emulator build. This phase focuses on touch-first refinement, platform integration and core Studio feature parity.

January 2027: Narrin View Mobile

Our target is to release Narrin View for iPhone, iPad, Android phones and Android tablets, building on the current Android tablet emulator build. This phase includes Render Library access, local caching, saved offline slideshows and interactive memory exploration.

These are development targets, and software schedules can change as validation progresses. We will keep backers informed through transparent campaign updates.

Why the fulfillment path is practical

Narrin is a software campaign. We do not need to design, manufacture and ship a proprietary digital frame to fulfill the core promise. The key output is a standard JPEG file set, and much of the underlying workflow already exists.

· Lower hardware risk because the campaign does not depend on a new manufacturing program.

· A working core that already includes sources, maps, filters, rendering, Render Library support and slideshow generation.

· Staged delivery across Desktop Studio, Tablet Studio and Mobile View.

· Standard outputs that reduce dependence on a proprietary playback ecosystem.

The campaign's initial promise remains focused on still-photo storytelling. Video and AI-assisted capabilities remain future roadmap items unless they are explicitly included in the final campaign reward terms.

Designed for families, including a Kickstarter-only opportunity

Narrin is designed around one family account, not a collection of isolated individual subscriptions. A family can use Narrin Studio and Narrin View across supported devices, while parents, grandparents and friends can enjoy exported slideshows without needing access to the account.

The Kickstarter campaign is also planned to include a limited Founders reward offering lifetime family access to the core Narrin Studio and Narrin View experience, including future core updates. This is intended as a one-time campaign opportunity, not a standard post-launch plan. Final availability and terms will be published on the Kickstarter campaign page.

Built for meaningful stories, not just organized files

We are entering the final two weeks before our planned Kickstarter launch with more than an idea. We have a working product foundation, a clear release roadmap and a practical way to deliver meaningful photo stories across the devices families already use.

Kickstarter will help us complete the cross-platform experience with a community that values family memories, travel, photography and storytelling. Backers will receive early access, campaign pricing and an opportunity to influence the product's evolution.
